📋 How Sessions Work
A session represents a single visit to your website. Sypnia automatically creates and manages sessions:
Session Start
A new session begins when a user first loads your website or returns after the session has expired.
Session Timeout
By default, sessions expire after 30 minutes of inactivity. You can configure this in project settings (1-120 minutes).
Session End
Sessions end when the browser tab is closed or after the timeout period of inactivity.
🔑 Session ID vs Visitor ID
| Session ID | Visitor ID | |
|---|---|---|
| Storage | sessionStorage | localStorage |
| Duration | Current tab only | Persists across sessions |
| Format | sess_abc123_1702... | vis_xyz789_1702... |
| Use case | Group events within a visit | Track returning users |
📊 Session Dashboard
The Sessions page shows:
- •Active sessions - Users currently on your site
- •Session list - All sessions with duration, page count, and entry page
- •User journey - Timeline of events within a session
- •Device info - Browser, OS, and device type
ℹ️Privacy Note
Sypnia doesn't use cookies. Session IDs are stored in sessionStorage (cleared when the tab closes) and visitor IDs in localStorage. This means you typically don't need a cookie consent banner for Sypnia tracking.
